Our aim is to provide proactive, interface with adults on autistic spectrum and by teaching to become productive and self sufficient. We also provide a resource for their families to avoid having third parties exert unnecessary legal control over their dependent's .
Our goal is to assist our residents enjoy the highest, independent quality of life.

Shirley A. Smith, President and CEO, established Shiru Residences LLC in December 1998 to address the need to house and support level three autistic, down syndrome and developmentally disabled adults, children and their families.
Over the years Shirley has proven to be a reliable and valuable resource to residents on the autism and developmental disability spectrums. She is extremely knowledgeable in helping residents learn valuable self-help skills through structured activity. Additionally, Shirley has proven to be a valuable liaison and resource for parents, case workers and government licensing and oversight agencies.

My daughter, Ayanna Smith, is the Facility Manager of Shiru Residencies. She has worked in this capacity since 2001. Ayanna gained a lot of her early experience working with me and also for Peppermint Ridge in Corona, CA. Ayanna is also a tenured special education teacher at Washington Elementary School in Riverside and at present she teaches the autistic class for kindergarten through second grade. She has also taught the second and third grade autistic students as well.

Sean Smith serves as our full time direct care staff member. He is a 22 year employee who oversees the resident’s daily activities. He oversees the residents meals, daily hygiene/physical and handwriting activities, outings, and administers their daily medication. Sean is the facility liaison with work program staff and independent work supervisors.
